BPBD Deploys Pumps To Overcome Floods In South OKU, South Sumatra

SOUTH SUMATRA - Officials from the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of South Ogan Komering Ulu (OKU) Regency deployed three pump machines to suck up flooding in Sukajaya Village to immediately recede.

Head of the Emergency and Logistics Section of BPBD South OKU Heri said these three suction machines were used to suck up flood water that inundated residents' houses in the village.

"There are two houses that are still flooded so that they cannot be occupied after the natural disaster," he said in Muaradua, South Sumatra (Sumsel) on Monday, May 8, which was confiscated by Antara.

Therefore, he continued, his party made efforts to extract using three pump machines so that flood water with a height of up to 50 centimeters that entered residential areas immediately receded.

In carrying out the suction, his party deployed 12 South OKU BPBD personnel so that the water supplied and then dumped into the river could be maximized.

"Meanwhile, residents who were flooded were still in the refugee camps that we provided until the flood really receded," he said.

He explained that the high rainfall intensity that occurred on the evening of Sunday, May 7, submerged two houses in Hamlet IV, Sukajaya Village, Buay Rawan District, South OKU.

Although there were no casualties, he said, as a result of the natural disaster as many as seven flood victims who came from the two heads of families (KK) had to be evacuated to a safe place because their houses were submerged in water with a height of up to 50 centimeters.

"The floods are not too severe, but this time's natural disaster is quite difficult for the residents, especially the flood victims," he said.

South OKU BPBD has established a disaster management post to anticipate further flooding so as not to cause casualties.

"Our personnel are on standby at the flood site and continue to monitor the river's water discharge in anticipation of further flooding," he said.
