Myanmar Conflict Will Be Resolved Soon, Jokowi Says It Will Be Discussed At The ASEAN Summit

LABUAN BAJO - President Joko Widodo said Myanmar's issue would be discussed specifically at the 42nd ASEAN/ASEAN Summit 2023 Summit in Labuan Bajo, West Manggarai Regency, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT). "In particular, it will be discussed, but our reference remains for Myanmar. Our reference remains a five point consensus, it remains a reference but must be with dialogue, because in my opinion the sanctions are not a solution," said Jokowi at Komodo Labuan Bajo Airport, West Manggarai Regency, NTT, Sunday 7 May. For the Myanmar issue, Jokowi hopes that the conflict there can be resolved immediately. Then, he said humanitarian assistance must reach the Myanmar people. "The third, the important dialogue, which is active not only here, but also in Myanmar itself, must be active to play a role in the dialogues we have carried out," he stressed. Previously, Jokowi emphasized that Indonesia prioritized the principles of collaboration and cooperation in the Chairship of ASEAN 2023 which began to be held on Tuesday 9 May in Labuan Bajo. He wants the resolution of every problem in the ASEAN region to prioritize dialogue principles.

"Dialogue is very important, especially in the Myanmar issue," said Jokowi. Jokowi and First Lady Iriana arrived at Komodo Airport, Labuan Bajo, Sunday, at 15.32 WITA, using the presidential plane. President Joko Widodo's arrival was related to the 42nd ASEAN Summit on May 9-11 in Labuan Bajo.
