Regarding The Riots Of Wamena, Komnas HAM Values Efforts To Reconcilnate The Papuan Mountains Provincial Government Have Not Been Maximized

JAKARTA - Coordinator of the Human Rights Enforcement Commission Sub-Commission Komnas HAM Uli Parulian Sihombing said the role of the Papuan Mountains Provincial Government (Pemprov) has not been optimal in relation to the post-damena riot handling.

Komnas HAM asked the government to find a solution to the root of the problem in Papua, especially in Wamena, and then seek to solve the problem as part of a solution to improve better human rights conditions.

"The root of the problem is social and economic sentiment between indigenous Papuans and migrants. This is actually one of the roots of Wamena's problems," said Uli.

Uli revealed that there was information stating that the offering and sale of merchandise by immigrants by traveling around was seen as killing micro-enterprises belonging to indigenous Papuans.

Therefore, Komnas HAM concluded that the background of the cause of the riots in Wamena was not only triggered by disinformation about the kidnapping of children, but also related to sentiment between indigenous Papuans and migrant communities.

"There was an action from a group of indigenous Papuans in Wamena City who demanded that the Jayawijaya Regional Government enforce an affirmative action, in such a way, the profession of motorcycle taxis, rickshaws and taxi drivers in Wamena is only intended for indigenous Papuans," he said.
