Pertamina Dumai Riau Refinery Caught Fire, 5 Workers Taken To Hospital

RIAU ISLAND - A fire at the Pertamina Refinery Unit II Dumai in Riau Province caused five workers to be injured.

The spokesperson for Pertamina RU II Dumai, Agustiawan, said the victims were currently receiving intensive care at the Pertamina Dumai Hospital.

"The condition of the affected workers is currently stable," he said in Dumai, Sunday, March 2 early morning, confiscated by Antara.

Currently, the fire in the gas compressor area of ​​the Dumai Refinery has been controlled. Agustiawan admitted that the fire which had occurred since Saturday, March 1 at around 22.40 WIB could be controlled at 22.54 WIB.

Agustiawan said that currently the refinery operations in the affected units have been temporarily suspended to ensure security at the site. Meanwhile, other units at Pertamina Dumai continue to operate normally.

The cause of the incident itself is still unknown. "Currently the team continues to focus on ensuring safe conditions. The Dumai Refinery Pertamina also continues to monitor to ensure that the community around the refinery is not affected by this incident," said Agustiawan.

The fire was previously accompanied by several explosions which were heard from more than 25 kilometers away.

The explosion also had an impact on a number of buildings in the vicinity, including residents' houses with broken glass, cracked walls, and fallen mosque ceilings.

Agustiawan ensured that Pertamina would be held responsible for the impact of the incident.
