JAKARTA - Russia, through its embassy in London, warned Britain about the possibility of sending fighter jets to Ukraine, saying that this move would have military-political consequences for the whole world.

"London must remember that under such a scenario, it could lead to bloodshed, escalation and resulting military-political consequences for the Continent and the rest of the world," said an embassy statement, quoted from TASS, February 9.

"Russia will find appropriate ways to respond to any unfriendly steps taken by the British side," the embassy continued.

The Russian diplomatic mission said the "fundraising campaign" carried out by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in London would not be complete without "his request for other weapons which Kyiv has long ceased to regard as 'defensive'."

"Considering the fate of the NATO artillery systems regularly used by the Kyiv military against cities in Donbass, there is little doubt that Western warplanes, if delivered, will also soon be used for airstrikes on residential neighborhoods in cities. DPR ( Donetsk), LPR (Lugansk), Kherson and Zaporizhzhia which are under Russian protection," the statement said.

Earlier, President Zelensky was in London on Wednesday, where he called on Britain to provide Ukrainian fighter jets as the next stage in the West's arms supply to help Kyiv fight off a Russian invasion.

Britain said it would start training Ukrainian pilots on how to fly standard NATO fighter jets, but has not promised to deliver the planes.

"The first step to being able to provide advanced aircraft is to have soldiers or airmen capable of using them. That is a process that takes time. We have started that process today," Prime Minister Rishi Sunak said alongside President Zelensky at an army camp in Dorset, southwest England, according to Reuters.

Moscow has repeatedly accused the West of "drawing in" the conflict in Ukraine with its multibillion-dollar supply of advanced military equipment.

Meanwhile, Kyiv and the West say hardware is vital in helping them fight Russia's so-called illegal war of aggression.
