Asking MRT Jakarta To Add Park And Ride Area, DPRD: Many Complaints

JAKARTA - Commission B DPRD DKI Jakarta asked PT MRT Jakarta to add more park and ride areas near MRT stations. So far, PT MRT Jakarta has not equipped many stations with park and ride

Deputy Chairman of Commission B DPRD DKI Jakarta, Taufik Azhar, assessed that the parking space for private vehicles using public transportation to continue their journey has greatly influenced the enthusiasm of the people to ride the MRT train.

The lack of park and ride points means that many people are reluctant to use the MRT and continue to use their private vehicles. So, said Taufik, it is necessary to have adequate park-and-ride land in line with the targeted increase in the number of passengers in 2023.

"I want to highlight the park and ride end to end of the MRT station, upstream and downstream. This is very much complained about. People from the other end want to take the MRT, where is the parking lot," said Taufik, quoted from the DKI Jakarta DPRD's official website, Wednesday, February 8.

Meanwhile, Member of Commission B Wahyu Dewanto added that the performance of the construction of MRT facilities so far has shown rapid progress. This condition is not directly proportional to the parking facilities.

“The park and ride is very small. Don't just be proud of building culinary spots, but there's no park and ride. Try to arrange that big buildings provide large parking lots. We'll help later. We can ask PTSP to bang on to support MRT park and ride and the tariff must be flat and cheap," he said.

So far, PT MRT Jakarta has only provided park and ride on land owned by the DKI Provincial Government near the Lebak Bulus Grab Station. This parking location can accommodate 1,200 motorbikes and 150 cars.

The parking rate for the Lebak Bulus park and ride is IDR 2,000 for motorbikes and IDR 5,000 for cars once parked. This park and ride does not operate for 24 hours. If the vehicle is not collected past 12 at night, an overnight fee for motorbikes of IDR 25,000 and cars of IDR 45,000 will be charged.

Since 2019, the provision of park and ride near Lebak Bulus Station has been carried out following the concept of mass transportation in developed countries. Where, park and ride is only provided at the initial location of the passenger trip.

For information, the number of MRT passengers per day from Lebak Bulus to Bundaran HI Station throughout 2022 has reached 54,181 people per day. In 2023, PT MRT Jakarta targets to reach 65,000 to 70,000 passengers per day.
