JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) stated that he would immediately issue a Presidential Regulation (Perpres) on Media Sustainability (MS). This is a legal product that will regulate the pattern of cooperation and relations between the media and the global platform, for the sake of a fair press ecosystem.

This was conveyed by President Jokowi when receiving a Member of the Press Council led by Chairman of the Press Council Ninik Rahayu at the State Palace, Jakarta, Monday, February 6.

The President on this occasion was accompanied by Minister of State Secretary Pratikno, while Ninik was accompanied by members of the Press Council M Agung Dharmajaya, Sapto Anggoro, Tri Agung Kristanto, Arif Zulkifli, Totok Suryanto, and Yadi Hendriana.

The President agreed with the input from the Press Council in the drafting of the Presidential Decree on Media Sustainability to rely on Law 40/1999 on the press.

"In the event of sustainability media, the President agreed that the Presidential Regulation of MS refers to the Press Law in accordance with the input of the Press Council," said Ninik.

On this occasion, the President confirmed that he would attend the peak of the National Press Day (HPN) in Medan, North Sumatra, on February 9, 2023.

"I will be present at the Medan HPN," said the President. On that occasion, the President received a report from members of the Press Council regarding the replacement of the management after the death of Prof. Azyumardi Azra, as well as reports regarding the press freedom index and the development of the sustainability media.
