MEDAN - Two governors responded to the proposal to abolish the post of the regional head at the governor level put forward by the General Chairperson of the National Awakening Party (PKB) Muhaimin Iskandar.

"The wisest proposal is by the people themselves. So if you want to make changes, ask the people," said West Java Governor Ridwan Kamil in Medan as reported by ANTARA, Tuesday, February 1

The voice of the people, he explained, could provide an answer not only to the abolition of the post of governor, but also to the existence of regents, mayors, and presidents of political parties.

In accordance with applicable regulations, regional head elections have been regulated in Law No.22/2014 concerning the Election of Governors, Regents, and Mayors.

"So the question is, if you want changes, go ahead. Because this country was built by agreement, the highest agreement comes from the aspirations of the people. That's my answer," he explained.

The former Mayor of Bandung explained that one form of questioning the people could be through a referendum.

"It can take the form of a referendum. The referendum asks the people, right? But if the people decide yes, a new agreement is made," he said.

However, he said, if the people still need a governor because they experience extraordinary benefits it must be respected. "So the conclusion remains to ask the people," said Ridwan Kamil.

Meanwhile, the Governor of North Sumatra, Edy Rahmayadi, asked journalists to ask questions again to those who discussed the abolition of the post of regional head at the governor level.

"You ask him. If the governor is abolished, wait, there will be no more work for the governors of the 38 provinces. Who will give the jobs to the governors," explained Edy.

Chairman of the DPP PKB Muhaimin Iskandar stated that his party is currently reviewing the removal of regional heads at the governor level.

"We are finalizing a study with experts," said Muhaimin in Jakarta, Monday (30/1).
