BEKASI - The Bekasi Regency Government, West Java, is coordinating with the Citarum River Basin to deal with the problem of the broken embankment in Solokan Kendal Village, Pantai Bahagia Village, Muaragembong District.

Acting Bekasi Regent Dani Ramdan said the results of the coordination had been followed up by BBWS Citarum by observing the location of the breached embankment to determine what treatment would be carried out.

"We have coordinated with BBWS for handling. Even though it was handled the previous year, it turns out that the erosion rate around the embankment is very strong, so BBWS promises to carry out full handling immediately," he said in Cikarang, Antara, Wednesday, January 25.

He hopes that BBWS Citarum is able to immediately carry out a thorough handling so that similar incidents do not recur and the people around the broken embankment area can carry out their activities in peace as before.

"Hopefully BBWS can handle it soon because this is their authority. The local government will of course help maximally according to our authority," he said.

Meanwhile, Muaragembong Sub-District Head Lukman Hakim said that he had taken initial temporary measures by covering the wall on the broken embankment using sacks filled with earth.

He mentioned that there were two points where the Citarum River embankment had collapsed in his area. The first is in Solokan Kendal Village, Pantai Bahagia Village and the second point is in Kedung Bokor Village, Pantai Bakti Village. The two embankment points were repaired by BBWS Citarum at the beginning of last year.

His party together with community elements also carried out disaster mitigation by preparing evacuation routes and evacuation gathering points. "This mitigation is an anticipatory step while waiting for further handling," he said.
