WEST Sumatra - As many as 50 motorbikes were burned in a fire that occurred at Khatib Sulaiman Street, Padang City, West Sumatra (West Sumatra).

"We received information about the fire around 05.00 WIB and efforts to extinguish the fire lasted for about an hour," said Head of Operations for the Padang City Fire Department Sutan Hendra in Padang, Thursday, January 19, as reported by Antara.

The Padang City Fire Department dispatched five cars and 40 personnel to extinguish the fire which also destroyed two shop plots owned by residents.

The building that caught fire belonged to Yuli Widriani (47) and Haji Salvia Miral (56), as the owners of the Rifdah Motor Shop which sells used motorbikes.

As a result of the fire, Yuli admitted that she suffered a loss of around IDR 500 million because two of her motorcycles were burnt. Plus various electronic and household equipment that was not saved and the price of the charred buildings.

Meanwhile, the victim Salvia Miral also suffered a loss of almost the same amount because fifty units of his motorbikes were on fire.

"There were fifty motorbikes in the shop and they were not saved. The Motorized Vehicle Ownership Book (BPKB) was around 75 copies. The loss I experienced reached IDR 500 million," said Salvia.

The resident of Ampang Karanggantiang, Kuranji, said that he has been in the business of buying and selling used motorcycles since 1997.

Meanwhile, police officers from the Padang City Police have installed a police line at the incident location to secure the crime scene and for investigation purposes.

Until now the cause of the fire has not been ascertained because it is still awaiting the results of the investigation which is still being carried out by the police.

On the other hand, the fire incident had attracted the attention of residents and passing motorists because of its location on the edge of Khatib Sulaiman road which is the main road in the local city.
