Jokowi Attaches the Name "Maung" to the Indonesian Production Tactical Vehicle

JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) pinned the name "Maung" for a domestically produced tactical vehicle.

"(The name) Maung", said Jokowi after attending the 2023 Ministry of Defense Leadership Meeting at the Ministry of Defense (Kemhan) Building, Jakarta, Wednesday, January 18, reported by Antara.

At the Indo Defense 2022 Expo & Forum last November 2022, Jokowi promised to name the main weapons system (Alutsista) domestic products that were introduced at the exhibition.

"(The reason) Ask the Minister of Defense", he continued.

Maung is a tactical vehicle (Rantis) made by PT Pindad, as part of the Defense Industry BUMN holding DEFEND ID which was launched by the President on April 20 2022 together with PT Dirgantara Indonesia, PT PAL Indonesia, and PT Dahana.

Jokowi broke the jug when naming the Maung jeep and continued by affixing his signature to the front hood of the vehicle.

Jokowi encouraged Indonesia to continue to take active steps in the development of the defense industry, bearing in mind findings indicating an increase in the defense budget of several world countries as well as the emergence of various new technologies in the military world.

He also once said that the Government opened up a large space for private companies to be actively involved in the development of the Indonesian defense industry.

Present at the event included Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto, TNI Commander Admiral TNI Yudo Margono, National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo, Chief of Staff for the Indonesian Army General Dudung Abdurachman, Chief of Staff for the Indonesian Air Force Marshal Fadjar Prasetyo, Chief of Staff for the Indonesian Navy Admiral TNI Muhammad Ali, as well as high-ranking officials in the Indonesian Army, Air Force, and Navy.
