BELITUNG - Ten crew of KM Mekar Jaya, who had an accident in the Java Sea, were evacuated by the crew of KM Bandar Bestari 05 to the port of Tanjung Pandan in Belitung Regency, Bangka Belitung Islands Province this afternoon.

Sailing Safety, Guard, and Patrol Coordinator of Class IV Harbormaster and Port Authority Office (KSOP) Tanjung Pandan Iswandi conveyed that the ship's crew (ABK) was rescued by the crew of KM Bandar Bestari 05 who were heading to Tanjung Pandan.

"The crew member KM Bandar Bestari rescued him from Tanjung Pandan port and arrived at 11.00 WIB", he said at Tanjung Pandan, Antara, Thursday, January 5.

He explained that KM Mekar Jaya, which departed from Tangerang to look for fish, was reported to have sunk in the Java Sea during bad weather conditions last Wednesday at 02.00 WIB.

According to him, the crew of KM Bandar Bestari 05 rescued the 10 crew members of the ship while crossing the waters where the ship had an accident. At that time, the cargo ship KM Bandar Bestari 05 was on its way from the port of Sunda Kelapa to the port of Tanjung Pandan.

KSOP Class IV Tanjung Pandan officers together with TNI and Polri officers assisted the KM Mekar Jaya crew upon their arrival at the port of Tanjung Pandan.

"Alhamdulillah, all of the crew members are in a safe condition. We will then prepare the official report and now they are at the Tanjung Pandan Archipelago Fishing Port", he said.

He appealed to ship captains to monitor weather information in the territorial waters before sailing and not to force sailing during bad weather.

"Because the current weather conditions are not good, we urge you not to force yourself to go out to sea if the weather is bad", he said.
