WEST PAPUA - The Sorong District Government (Pemkab) handles a two-week-old baby. The baby was dumped by its parents under a truck belonging to a resident on Walet Street, Malasom Village, early Monday 28 November.

Head of the Protection and Fulfillment of Children's Rights at the Office of Population Control, Family Planning, Empowerment of Women and Children in Sorong, Frida Flora Gifelem, said that the baby, who was estimated to be two weeks old, was found by residents still alive.

She added that the baby was found limp and the umbilical cord had not been released but had dried up. There were also traces of formula milk in the baby's mouth.

"This means that the baby, before being thrown away by the parents, had been given formula milk so wouldn't get thirsty until residents found the baby," she said in Sorong, West Papua Province, Tuesday, November 29, as reported by Antara.

Frida said the baby boy had been treated at the J.P. Wanane Sorong Regional General Hospital (RSUD). Currently in good health.

She explained that there was a significant change in the health of the baby at this time compared to when it was first discovered which was in a neglected state.

A pediatrician at J.P. Hospital. Wanane Sorong, who handled the baby, said Frida, said that the baby could be brought home. Frida ensured that the Sorong Regency Government would continue to accompany the handling of the baby.

"We and the Social Service (Dinsos) will work together regarding child adoption rights, of course through a series of provisions because they involve the ability, responsibility, and eligibility of life, as well as the future of the baby," said Frida.
