Visited by Victim's Families, Komnas HAM Studys the Kanjuruhan Tragedy Report

The Coordinator of the Human Rights Enforcement Sub-Commission of Komnas HAM, Uli Parulian Sihombing, gave a press statement after receiving representatives of the families of the victims of Kanjuruhan (ANTARA/Muhammad Zulfikar).

JAKARTA - The National Human Rights Commission (Komnas HAM) said it was studying reports of a humanitarian tragedy at the Kanjuruhan Stadium, Malang Regency, East Java, after representatives of the victims' families visited the institution.

"We are studying the old files from the old Komnas HAM commissioner report that was submitted to the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs", said Uli Parulian Sihombing, Coordinator of the Komnas HAM Human Rights Enforcement Sub-Commission, as quoted by ANTARA, Thursday, November 17.

In addition, members of the new period of Komnas HAM (2022-2027) will study new evidence presented by the families, lawyers, and companions of the Kanjuruhan victims.

He said the meeting between representatives of the families of the Kanjuruhan victims and the Komnas HAM commissioner essentially discussed several hopes to get a sense of justice for the events experienced.

The representatives of the families of the victims, conveyed their complaints about the economic condition after the Kanjuruhan Tragedy which killed hundreds of football fans.

"Including the trauma of the victims' families left behind", he said.

Meanwhile, the companion of the victim's family, Andy Irfan, said that his visit to Komnas HAM was to follow up on something that had been protested against by members of Komnas HAM in the previous period.

According to him, the recommendations submitted by the previous commissioners were rushed because they found something that was considered an alleged violation of human rights.

"We hope that the new commissioner will form an ad hoc investigation team for alleged gross human rights violations", he said.

He said his visit to Komnas HAM essentially conveyed a message from the victim's family and supporters regarding the events experienced, witnessed after the Kanjuruhan Tragedy of October 1, 2022.

Finally, Andy conveyed to Komnas HAM members regarding the key findings of the Kanjuruhan Tragedy which will be followed up in the future.
