Norwegian Police Arrest Allegedly A Russian Spy: Disguising As A Brazilian

JAKARTA - Norwegian security forces secured a person suspected of spying on Monday, calling it a threat amid increased security after Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

It is known that he is male, he is suspected of being a Russian spy and was arrested in the Arctic city of Tromsoe, according to public broadcaster NRK, citing the Norwegian Police (PST).

The man, who works as a scientist at Tromsoe University, disguised himself as a Brazilian national, but police believe his real identity is Russian.

The man represents a "threat to the fundamental national interests" and must be removed from Norway, PST Deputy Head Hedvig Moe told NRK.

Further explained, the man has been in Norway since 2021, believed by PST to have sought to establish himself in the country with a false identity while secretly working for Russian intelligence.

PST did not immediately reply to a request for comment.

It is known, as a member of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), Norway borders Russia at the North Pole and has increased security following the Moscow invasion of Ukraine earlier this year.
