Young Papuan Leaders Hope Acting Governor Can Replace Luke Enembe, Who Is Sick And Doesn't Have A Deputy Governor

PAPUA - Coordinator of Young Papuan Intellectuals Paulinus Ohee hopes that there will be an acting governor who can carry out the wheels of government in Papua Province.

"It is very important to have a governor official to carry out the public service process to the community," he said in a written statement in Jakarta, quoted from Antara, Monday, October 18.

He said that the condition of the Governor of Papua, Lukas Enembe, who was sick and was involved in a case of alleged corruption by the KPK, greatly disrupted the running of government in the region.

In addition, he said, Lukas Enembe also did not have a deputy governor. Klement Tinal as his deputy passed away in May 2021.

Paulinus explained that the deactivation of Lukas Enembe from the position of Governor because he had been sick for a long time would provide three benefits at once. Lukas can focus more on running health care, be better prepared to face the legal process and the performance of the Provincial Government in serving the community remains optimal.

“The condition of the governor is sick, but the government must continue to run. In this case, the Minister of Home Affairs must disable the governor to restore health and carry out the legal process that is currently being faced," he hoped.

He hopes that with the new governor, all obstacles in running the wheels of development in Papua can be overcome.

Previously, Secretary of KNPI Keerom Regency Michael Sineri suggested the Ministry of Home Affairs to appoint an acting governor in Papua so that public services can be maximized.

"We recommend the Ministry of Home Affairs to immediately deactivate the Papua governor temporarily and replace him with an official governor, so that public services continue to run well," he said.

The same thing was conveyed by the United Papuan People's Organization, urging and demanding the Minister of Home Affairs to immediately deactivate the governor of Papua and replace him with a temporary official, so that the process of government services and public services can run.

The spokesman for the United Papuan People, Ali Kabiay, stated that the insistence was one of ten points in the statement of the organization's position regarding the alleged corruption case of Lukas Enembe.

"Papua Province currently does not have a deputy governor," he said.

They also affirmed their support for the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) to eradicate corruption in Papua.
