JAKARTA - East Jakarta Fire and Rescue (Gulkarmat) Sub-department officers rescued a baby trapped in a flood at RW 11 Bidaracina, Jatinegara, Monday.

Head of the Operational Section (Kasi) of the East Jakarta Gulkarmat Sub-dept., Gatot Sulaeman, explained that his members had to brave 150 centimeters (cm) of flood water to evacuate the baby.

"In Bidaracina, it was a request from residents, maybe because the water receded for quite a long time, so what used to stay indoors is getting colder and colder," said Gatot in Jakarta, Monday, October 10.

Gatot added that his party received a request for the evacuation of the baby from the baby's parents.

Gatot said, after being evacuated from a house that was surrounded by floods, the baby was then evacuated to a post provided by officers near the flood location.

"But we didn't use an inflatable boat because it wasn't too far away, so we evacuated it to a safer location, carried by personnel," said Gatot.

The head of RT 12 RW 11, Saiful Bahri (39) explained that the water level in that place had reached 220 centimeters in the early hours of this morning.

"Earlier at around 03.00 WIB the water had started to rise. The height was 220 centimeters. Now it has fallen quite slowly, 50-60 centimeters," said Saiful.

Saiful added that his party had prepared two boats that were used to evacuate residents.

"We already have two boats, they are on standby. So, everything has been prepared. The team and residents, who is evacuated, who will evacuate," said Saiful.
