DKI Provincial Government Facilitates The Repair Of Collapsed MTsN 19 Building

JAKARTA - The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government facilitated the repair of buildings that collapsed due to flooding in Madrasah Tsanawiyah Negeri (MTsN) 19, South Jakarta, causing the death of three students.

"From the provincial government's perspective, to be able to rebuild, we are ready to support," said DKI Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan when mourning one of the victims who died in Jagakarsa, South Jakarta, reported by ANTARA, Thursday, October 6.

In addition, the DKI Provincial Government is also ready to support if a temporary place is needed for the teaching and learning process.

His party has conveyed the readiness to the Regional Office of the Ministry of Religion of DKI Jakarta which oversees the MTsN.

"We are ready to find a way out later if extra is needed," he said.

The former Minister of Education and Culture added that the tragic incident was a lesson for all to review the background of the collapse of some buildings and the parapet at the school.

"This is a learning material for all of us to review the process so that this incident can happen. Why is this necessary so that we can prevent this incident from happening again," said Anies.

The incident caused three students to die when the school boundary wall collapsed due to flooding in Pondok Labu, Cilandak, South Jakarta, on Thursday at around 2:50 pm.

The school wall that collapsed is thought to have been caused by heavy rains that triggered the overflow of water from the Pinang Kalijati canal and the river behind the school.

From the footage, it can be seen that when it rained heavily and water flooded the school yard, a number of children were seen playing around the school's parapet and moments later the wall collapsed and hit a number of students.

In addition to the three victims who died, there were three students who were injured and received treatment at the Prikasih Hospital, Jakarta.
