AW-101 Helicopter Corruption Case Will Soon Be Tried at the Corruption Court

JAKARTA - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has transferred a case file of alleged corruption in the procurement of the AW-101 helicopter that ensnared Irfan Kurnia Saleh alias Jhon Irfan Kenway to the Corruption Court, Central Jakarta. The trial is now just a matter of time.

"Today, Prosecutor Yoga Pratomo has finished transferring the case files and indictment with the defendant Irfan Kurnia Saleh alias Jhon Irfan Kenway to the Corruption Court at the Central Jakarta District Court", said Head of the KPK News Section Ali Fikri to reporters, Thursday, October 6.

Ali said the detention of Irfan, who is now a defendant, is the responsibility of the court. Meanwhile, for the trial period, the KPK Public Prosecutor (JPU) is still waiting for the specified schedule.

The first trial will begin with the reading of the indictment. "The team of prosecutors is still waiting for the issuance of the determination of the appointment of the panel of judges and the determination of the date of the inaugural trial", he said.

As previously reported, the KPK suspected that Irfan had made the state lose up to IDR 224 billion from the contract value for the AW-101 helicopter procurement in the Indonesian Air Force.

Irfan is suspected of committing several frauds in procurement. Among them, receiving a payment of 100 percent of the contract value.

In fact, there are several types of work that do not meet specifications, such as not installing the cargo door and the number of seats in the helicopter that does not match.

For his actions, the KPK suspected that Irfan had violated Article 2 paragraph 1 or Article 3 of the Corruption Eradication Law (UU Tipikor) in conjunction with Article 55 paragraph 1 1 of the Criminal Code.
