JAKARTA - DKI Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan plans to build residential areas on the reclaimed islands of Jakarta Bay. One of them is to require private developers to build affordable flats on Island C or Pantai Kita.

This is stated in the Governor's Regulation Number 25 of 2022 concerning the Regional Development Plan (RPD) of DKI Jakarta for 2023-2026.

The RPD compiled is a follow-up to the Instruction of the Minister of Home Affairs Number 70 of 2021 which regulates the stages and procedures for the preparation of Regional Development Plans (RPD) and Strategic Plans (Renstra) for Regional Apparatuses for 2023-2026.

Thus, the construction of residential areas contained in this RPD will be carried out when Anies' term of office ends, or when led by the Acting Governor and the next Governor of DKI Jakarta.

"The government is targeting the addition of 7,901 flats in several locations, including the construction of flats in priority villages and affordable flats in Pantai Kita as the obligation of the private sector," Anies wrote in the governor's regulation, quoted on Monday, September 26.

In addition to Island C, Anies also plans to build a residential area on Island G. This is stated in Governor Regulation Number 31 of 2022 concerning Detailed Spatial Planning for DKI Jakarta.

In this Pergub, Anies stipulates the reclamation area of Island G to be a threshold zone. More specifically, in this zone, Island G is directed to residential areas.

"The G Island Reclamation Area is directed to residential areas," reads Article 192 paragraph (2) of the Governor's Regulation Number 31 of 2022.

The Head of the DKI Jakarta Cipta Karya, Spatial Planning and Land Office, Heru Hermawanto, explained about Island G which was directed to settlements.

According to him, an area that is designated as a threshold zone has not yet received a definite designation. However, the DKI Provincial Government has proposed Island G to be a residential area for residents.

"It's directed, right. But because it's a threshold zone, you can be free. You can be directed there. We prioritize if settlements are allowed, we ask for it," Heru told reporters, Wednesday, September 21.

Heru said that the reason Anies directed G Island to be a residential area was that there were still many people's needs for housing in Jakarta.

However, the certainty of the designation of Island G will still have to be determined through a regional regulation regarding the regional spatial plan (RT/RW) which is discussed with the DKI Jakarta DPRD.

"The details depend on the regional regulations. The regional regulations will determine later," said Heru.

Meanwhile, Deputy Governor of DKI Jakarta, Ahmad Riza Patria, emphasized that Island G will not only be designated as a residential area. "This is being discussed and formulated later, the island g is intended for anything, not just for settlements, it will be discussed later, it will be formulated," said Riza on Sunday, September 25.
