Regarding the Luke Enembe Case, the Regional Police Chief Asks West Papuans Not To Be Easily Provoked

JAKARTA - Regional Police Chief, Inspector General Daniel Tahi Monang Silitonga, asked West Papuans not to be provoked by the KPK's efforts to enforce the law against Papuan Governor Lukas Enembe.

The appeal was conveyed by the West Papua Police Chief in Manokwari, Tuesday, September 20. He guarantees the safety and comfort of the people of West Papua, related to the circulation of information on various social media about protests by community groups against law enforcement efforts in Papua Province.

"In general, the security and public order situation (kamtibmas) of West Papua is conducive, the public is advised to be wise when receiving information so that they are not easily provoked", Daniel said as quoted by Antara.

The Regional Police Chief also invites the participation of the community, customary, religious, women, and youth leaders in the regions to contribute to providing positive information to their respective groups so that they remain focused on supporting ongoing development programs.

"Let's all better focus on the development of West Papua so that it is more advanced, there is no need to be influenced by law enforcement efforts in Papua because that way (law enforcement) the problem can be clearer and there is a solution", said Daniel.

The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has not yet opened the option of forcibly picking up Papuan Governor Lukas Enembe. Moreover, the current condition is considered unfavorable.

"We don't want any bloodshed or any kind of rioting as a result of our efforts", said KPK Deputy Chairman, Alexander Marwata, to reporters at the office of the Coordinating Ministry for Political, Legal and Security Affairs, Monday, September 19 yesterday.

Alexander ensured that his party would continue to monitor conditions in Papua. Not only that, a summons to Lukas Enembe for a second summons has been sent.

However, Alexander did not specify the exact time. He was just making sure the recall had been delivered because Luke was previously absent.

The KPK will also provide an option for Lukas to be questioned in Papua as in the first summons. However, Alexander asked him to calm his supporters so that the situation became more conducive.

"Or, if, for example, Mr. Lukas wants to be questioned in Jayapura, we also ask for your cooperation so that the community will be calmed", he said.

Alexander ensured that the anti-corruption commission investigators would work according to applicable regulations. In fact, the investigation into the alleged corruption could have been stopped if Lukas was able to prove where the money in his account came from.

"For example, Mr. Lukas has a gold mining business. Yes, we will definitely stop (the investigation into alleged corruption, ed)", said Alexander.

"But, please clarify. Fulfill the KPK's invitation, the KPK's summons", he said.
