JAKARTA - At the peak of the 2022 MHT Awards, DKI Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan again reminded reporters to be honest and impartial. But there are things where according to him journalists are required to take sides, namely to side with truth and justice.

"There are many things that journalists can do. But sometimes journalists get stuck in work routines so they lack accuracy and tend to side with one group. If you want to take sides, you can actually, but side with truth and justice," he said in his remarks after handing over the award to the nominees for the 2022 MHT Journalism Award or the 48th which took place at the Great Hall, Jakarta City Hall, on Thursday 15 September.

After handing over tokens of appreciation and appreciation prizes to the winners, it was Anies' turn to be rewarded by PWI Jakarta. He received the PWI Jaya Award from the Association of Indonesian Journalists (PWI) Jakarta as an appreciation of his concern and contribution to press freedom in Jakarta.

Anies Baswedan appreciates the role of journalists in Jakarta through PWI Jaya because so far they have contributed to building a healthy journalistic ecosystem. According to him, the award was received as a reminder that public officials must open a transparent freedom space for journalistic activities.

“We appreciate our fellow journalists who have joined together to build a healthy journalism ecosystem in Jakarta. We are also grateful for the award given. This is a tribute. We ourselves feel that facilitating it (freedom of the press) is a must," he said.

Anies expressed his gratitude for the appreciation given to him. “Especially being in the public sphere and friends monitoring all of this. I feel salute to my friends at PWI. And thank you for the award, this is a reminder for me and all of us to always keep that space of freedom," he added.

Regarding the implementation of the 48th MHT Awards in 2022, Anies Baswedan assessed that whoever wins this award can be a motivation for journalists to produce various works that are needed by the community.

Hopefully, this will be a motivation for all friends who are engaged in journalism to produce works. This is a sign of success in work. So, I congratulate the winners. We in Jakarta are of course very supportive, because this activity has been running for 48 years,” explained Anies Baswedan.
