Men from Jember Steal Motorcycles in Dozens of Locations in Mataram

MATARAM - A man from Jember, East Java, with the initials W (46) was arrested by the police for stealing in dozens of places in Mataram, NTB.

Head of the Public Relations Section of the Mataram Police, Iptu Siswoyo, said the thefts at dozens of crime scenes allegedly committed by perpetrator W were revealed from the results of the investigation by the Criminal Investigation Unit Team of the Sandubaya Sector Police.

"So, from the results of the examination, W has acted in dozens of crime scenes. From the police reports received by the Sandubaya Police alone, there are 6 reports with the alleged perpetrator W", said Siswoyo.

Meanwhile, Sandubaya Police Chief, Commissioner Moh. Nasrullah said the existence of W as the alleged perpetrator of the theft of dozens of crime scenes was revealed thanks to the community's cooperation.

The police arrested W when he carried out a vehicle theft at a mosque in the Sandubaya area, Mataram City, Monday, September 12.

"Initially, the perpetrator's action was thwarted by the people who saw it. Luckily, the members quickly followed up on the information, so that the person concerned was successfully secured from the tantrums of the residents", he said.

In connection with dozens of theft crime scenes, the police found evidence of 12 two-wheeled vehicles from the role of a collector.

"From the examination, the perpetrator admitted stealing these 12 vehicles in crowded places, such as markets and mosques", he said.

As for the modus operandi of the perpetrators when they carried out the theft at the mosque, Nasrullah explained, by pretending to participate in the congregational prayers.

"When it started, the suspect left the mosque and immediately targeted the victim's vehicle", he said.

Likewise, the mode of perpetrator W at the last crime scene, the location of W's arrest. W's action was caught on a CCTV camera when he was about to break the ignition of a two-wheeled vehicle that was parked in the mosque's yard.

"There he was seen using a fake ignition key. From the arrest in question, we have also secured the fake ignition key, there are nine types", said Nasrullah.

The police have named W as a suspect under the suspicion of Article 363 of the Criminal Code concerning theft.

Even though he has been named a suspect or detained at the Sandubaya Police Rutan, Nasrullah assured that W's case is still under development in the field.

"We are developing it to find out whether he has a network, and where the stolen goods are sold. There is a possibility that his crime scene will increase because according to information, there are also in Central Lombok", he said.
