JAKARTA - The government has prepared legal protection related to the plan to implement a blue economy strategy that focuses on ecological and economic considerations for activities in the sea sector.

"Now in the preparation of the legal protection, hopefully, it can be completed soon," said Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, Sakti Wahyu Trenggono, after delivering a briefing on the Blue Economy Implementation Strategy in the Fisheries Sector, Semarang, Central Java, quoted from Antara, Sunday 11 September.

After the legal protection, the blue economy strategy will be tested in several areas before being implemented thoroughly.

"So, it is not carried out immediately massively but trial first. If it is good, then it is implemented. So, the sustainability of the ecosystem in the sea will run well, and fishermen will benefit," he said.

Wahyu emphasized that the blue economy strategy is a form of government siding with traditional local fishermen.

"Right now we want to side with them, we need something that we can give, one of which is to revive economic growth there so that fishermen can develop," he said.

The blue economy strategy has five points. Trenggono explained that the first is to expand conservation areas with a target of 30 percent of Indonesia's territorial area by prioritizing the quality of conservation areas.

Then the second, he continued, was fishing in a measurable manner based on the fishing quota and setting a conservation zone in six fishing zones.

Third, 'Love Sea Month', in its implementation fishermen have an important role in waste management at sea.

Furthermore, the fourth, is the arrangement of the sea sector for the protection of coastal and marine ecosystems; and finally, the fifth, the sea resource balance is used as a tool to measure the balance and sustainability of marine resources.

In addition, there is a cultivation policy that aims to reduce the number of catches that have a significant contribution to the sea so that the fish population is maintained and protects certain types of fish to be caught.

Seaweed has a strategic value for absorbing carbon and is the main raw material for other industries.
