MANOKWARI - Two resort police in the ranks of the West Papua Regional Police, namely the Manokwari and Sorong City Police received an upgrade in status from the previous type D/Polres to type C/Polresta or city resort police.

The Head of Public Relations of the West Papua Police, Kombes Adam Erwindi, explained that the increase in the types of the two Polres within the West Papua Regional Police was based on the Letter of the Minister of PAN-RB Number B/802/M.KT.01/2022 dated August 4, 2022, regarding Approval for the Establishment of Seven Polres and Improvement of Type 12 Polres, as well as the Chief of Police Decree Numbers 1161 and 1160 dated August 30, 2022.

"After upgrading, the Sorong City Police and Manokwari Police will be led by police officers with the rank of Commissioner or Kombes," he said, quoted by ANTARA, Tuesday, September 6.

He said the increase in the two types of police stations was an effort by the National Police to meet the dynamics and expectations of the community regarding police services.

"With the increasing needs and expectations of the community for police services, the increase in the two types of police stations has finally been answered after being proposed by the West Papua Regional Police since 2020," said Adam.

The West Papua Regional Police will immediately arrange the composition of personnel and prepare planning for organizational resources, budgets, and facilities needed to support the operations of the Manokwari Police and Sorong City Police.

"With this type of increase, of course, additional personnel, budget and facilities, and infrastructure are needed, so the planning needs to be carefully prepared," he said.

Kombes Adam Erwindi also said that internally the increase in the types of the two Polres will provide more motivation in realizing Police Precision in the West Papuan community.

"Of course, in providing protection and police services, the community will be more optimal, especially the areas in the cities of Sorong and Manokwari," he said.
