Anies: City Is A Place Where More Problems Are In The World

JAKARTA - DKI Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan highlighted the condition of cities which often face more problems than rural areas. This problem occurs all over the world.

This was conveyed by Anies at the Urban 20 (U20) Mayors Summit which was attended by city delegates representing G20 members from several countries at the Fairmont Hotel, Central Jakarta.

"Cities are places where there are more problems in the world. I must say that we will face more people who will live in urban areas", said Anies, Tuesday, August 30.

Many of the problems that occur in urban areas are caused by people moving from the village in droves so population density is unavoidable.

One of the more common problems in cities is climate change. According to him, cities contribute significantly to the problem of greenhouse gas emissions.

"When it comes to climate change, it is cities that contribute more to gas emissions", said Anies.

"Cities that also often produce waste and many other issues are created. Also, cities are places where a pandemic starts and spreads faster", Anies continued.

However, Anies views the city as a place where innovation and breakthroughs are created. Therefore, for several problems faced, all parties need to create solutions and breakthroughs that need to be made.

"Let's see us not only as a place for global challenges but also as a place for solutions and breakthroughs to be created. We really hope that collaboration between us will not only be created between governments but also collaboration from communities outside the government", he explained.

For information, the U20 Mayors Summit forum is a space for U20 city leaders to gather, strengthen collaboration and submit recommendations to the Indonesian government at the G20 Leaders Summit which will take place in Bali on November 15-16, 2022.

This year's U20, with Jakarta and West Java as hosts, will focus on issues and challenges faced by cities due to the COVID-19 pandemic. So the theme raised is "Post-pandemic City".

In this fifth U20, regional heads and governors are members of the G20 to work together in three main areas, namely investment in health and public housing as the basis for social economic recovery for all.

Second, promote a sustainable energy transition and equitable access to sustainable mobility. Third, provide education and training about the future of workers for equal access to the job market for all.
