BATURAJA - The Ogan Komering Ulu (OKU) Resort Police, South Sumatra arrested an online lottery bookie with the initials JU (48) while conducting gambling transactions using a smartphone at the suspect's residence in Kemalaraja Village, East Baturaja District.

"The suspect was arrested on Wednesday, August 24 at 22.00 WIB", said the OKU Police Chief, AKBP Danu Agus Purnomo represented by the Head of Public Relations AKP Syafaruddin.

The online lottery gambling dealer JU was arrested by the Lion Ogan Resmob Team of the OKU Police because he was caught red-handed in committing a lottery gambling act ordered by a buyer online via his smartphone.

The gambling mode is carried out by the suspect by preparing numbers for the buyer, then recapitulating and announcing the winner online.

From the suspect's hands, the police confiscated evidence in the form of two mobile phones, IDR 163,000 in cash, and a recap notebook containing notes on lottery numbers.

"There is also evidence that one sheet of SHIU lottery records in 2022 and two notes of lottery numbers issued in 2022 were also secured from the suspect's hands", he said again.

For his actions, the suspect will be charged with Article 303 of the Criminal Code on Gambling with a penalty of up to five years in prison.

Syafaruddin emphasized that the police would continue to intensify operations to eradicate all forms of gambling practices, including online gambling in the area.

"This operation follows up on the instructions of the National Police Chief, General Listyo Sigit Prabowo, regarding the eradication of gambling or now better known as code 303. For this reason, the entire community must immediately report to the nearest police force if they know of gambling practices in their respective environments", he said.
