Former Russian President Says Special Military Operation Collapses Ukraine's NATO Aspirations

JAKARTA - Ukraine's chances of joining NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization) have been reduced to zero thanks to Russia's special military operations, Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council Dmitry Medvedev said on his Telegram channel on Tuesday.

"It is clear to everyone, that none of the neighbors can give them assurances, no matter how hard they hate Russia. And now no one will agree with Ukraine's admission to NATO. Even though there are several Russophobes in the alliance, they did not commit suicide. This is the result directly from special military operations," wrote Medvedev who is also the former President of Russia, launching TASS on August 23.

He said the regime in Kyiv "continues to create a kind of security guarantee for itself that it wants to enjoy in the future."

"From time to time they have meetings with neighbors of non-essential individuals, chaired by long-forgotten retirees, or call back NATO," he explained.

However, Medvedev believes that "only an agreement with Russia can provide security guarantees."

"But the Ukrainian authorities, stimulated by Western money and missiles, resisted it." As a result, the prospects for guarantees for Ukraine "are very bleak."

"The regime in Kyiv (current Ukrainian leaders) understands that there are no guarantees of security at all and there cannot be. Even the United States will not offer guarantees of a bright future to (Ukrainian President Volodymyr) Zelensky. It makes no sense," Medvedev stressed.

He believed that for now the situation in Ukraine was in the hands of US President Joe Biden's Administration, but judged "it will end soon."

The next team to take over in Washington "will not hesitate to ditch the corrupt schemes of Ukraine along with its accomplices," Medvedev concluded.
