JAKARTA - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has warned of the potential for heavy rains in several parts of Indonesia, including several provinces in Sumatra, Java, and Kalimantan.

Quoted from the BMKG website, Tuesday, August 16, areas that have the potential to experience heavy rain are in the provinces of Riau, Riau Islands, Bengkulu, Jambi, South Sumatra, Bangka Belitung Islands, Lampung, Banten, West Java, DKI Jakarta, Central Java, and Yogyakarta.

There is also the potential for rain in West Kalimantan, Central Kalimantan, North Kalimantan, North Sulawesi, Gorontalo, Central Sulawesi, Southeast Sulawesi, North Maluku, Maluku, West Papua and Papua.

Rain with lighter intensity is also predicted to occur in Aceh, North Sumatra, West Nusa Tenggara, and East Kalimantan.

Meanwhile, based on the Antara report, strong winds have the potential to occur in the East Nusa Tenggara region.

Especially for the DKI Jakarta area, moderate intensity rains are predicted to fall in the areas of West Jakarta, Central Jakarta, South Jakarta, and East Jakarta during the day.

Light rain has the potential to occur in North Jakarta during the day and at night it is predicted to fall in West Jakarta and South Jakarta.

The BMKG also warned that a number of provinces were included in the alert category for the impact of heavy rains such as floods, namely areas in South Sumatra, Bengkulu, Lampung, DKI Jakarta, West Java, Central Java, Banten, West Kalimantan, East Kalimantan, Central Sulawesi, Maluku, North Maluku, Papua.
