KUDUS - A team from the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Kudus Regency, Central Java extinguished a bag factory fire in Loram Wetan Village, Jati District, which was suspected to be caused by an electrical short.

The Head of Emergency and Logistics of BPBD Kudus Munaji explained the chronology of the findings of the incident, which started when a worker opened the gate from the outside because there was a billowing smoke.

The witness then asked neighbors for help and contacted the fire brigade team.

At around 15.30 WIB, the Kudus BPBD fire brigade team carried out firefighting efforts and helped evacuate valuables that could still be saved.

The fire was successfully tamed around 16.00 WIB followed by cooling to ensure that no more embers appeared.

The loss in the incident was estimated at IDR 394 million. All production equipment, such as sewing machines, wolsum overlock machines, as well as ready-to-production bag materials along with the roof of the building, were destroyed by fire.

Bejo Slamet, one of the workers, confirmed that the cause of the fire was suspected to be an electrical short. When he entered the production site, a fire appeared from the power grid.

"At that time, the electric kwh meter snapped or fell, but when we looked inside the production site, a fire appeared," he said as quoted by ANTARA, Thursday, August 4.

Although there have been efforts to evacuate goods from inside the factory, he said, there are still many items that cannot be saved because the fire burns quickly.

Jati Fiza Akbar Sub-district Head added that in the fire incident there were no casualties, because the majority of the workers were in the bag-making raw material warehouse.
