PEKANBARU - The Center for Drug and Food Control (BBPOM) in Pekanbaru found 1,826 cosmetic products that did not meet the provisions with an economic value of IDR 38 million in a controlling action on 19-28 July 2022.

"During the control period, it was carried out in Pekanbaru City, Kampar Regency, and Rohul Regency in an integrated manner with the Health Service, Disperindag, and Satpol PP," said Head of BBPOM Pekanbaru, Yosep Riawan in Pekanbaru, Antara, Tuesday, August 2.

He said that in the action to protect the public, 193 items of illegal cosmetic products, 5,270 pcs, were also found, with an economic value of IDR 67 million.

Although the economic value of the findings is not large, he said, however, it is necessary to be aware that illegal cosmetic products are still in demand by the public, both in conventional and online channels.

"The illegal cosmetic products found were destroyed by the owner in the presence of the officer, the owner of the goods then making a statement not to repeat the same violation and the BBPOM in Pekanbaru giving administrative sanctions in the form of a stern warning," he said.

Meanwhile, the public must be protected from health risks due to the use of cosmetics that do not meet the requirements, because in the long term it can cause skin damage, cancer, and others.

"In addition to reducing the level of circulation of illegal cosmetics, Market Control Actions of Illegal Cosmetics and/or containing Hazardous Materials are also carried out simultaneously by all UPTs of the POM Agency throughout Indonesia on the 3-4th week of July 2022," he said.

Action targets are cosmetics without a marketing authorization (TIE), cosmetics containing hazardous materials, cosmetics that are included in public warnings, and expired/damaged cosmetics.

For this reason, the activities targeted are cosmetic distribution facilities in both modern retail and traditional markets, especially facilities with a track record of finding illegal cosmetic products.
