JAKARTA - The Provincial Government (Pemprov) of DKI Jakarta has determined that traffic engineering at the Hotel Indonesia (HI) roundabout will be permanent due to the reduction in conflict points at road junctions around the heart of the city.

"During the trial, it was identified a reduction in traffic conflict points at the HI Roundabout from eight points, now it has reduced to four points," said Head of the DKI Transportation Agency (Dishub) Syafrin Liputo as quoted by ANTARA, Tuesday, July 19.

The permanent traffic engineering takes effect every day starting Monday (18/7) at 16.00-21.00 WIB.

The Department of Transportation has conducted traffic engineering trials at the HI Roundabout for two weeks from 27 June to 8 July 2022.

From the evaluation results, the DKI Transportation Department noted positive results, namely a decrease in the degree of saturation, traffic congestion and the opportunity for queuing vehicles in the HI Roundabout area, so that more vehicles can pass through the area.

His party appealed to road users to be able to adjust the traffic arrangements that were set, obey traffic signs, instructions from officers in the field and prioritize road safety.

Previously, the DKI Transportation Agency noted that during the first phase of the trial on July 4-10, 2022, there was an increase in the average speed of vehicles from 29 kilometers per hour to 30 kilometers per hour either from the north (Thamrin Street), south (Jalan Sudirman) or east (Jalan Imam Bonjol).

When the traffic engineering trials were applied, the traffic in the area, which had always been stagnant, now began to unravel.

The traffic engineering was carried out so that the flow of vehicles from Jalan Jenderal Sudirman that was going to Jalan Imam Bonjol was directed to make a U-turn at the Horse Statue Roundabout or another option was to rotate at the Ministry of Transportation.

Therefore, vehicles from the south are straightened to the north on Jalan Thamrin and then turn back at the Horse Statue.

Then, traffic flow from Jalan Imam Bonjol that wants to go north, namely Jalan Thamrin, is directed to make a U-turn via the south on Jalan Galunggung, then through Jalan Sudirman and continue north.

Traffic engineering is excluded for TransJakarta public transportation and vehicles carrying VVIP.
