JAKARTA - Ukrainian troops launched a new attack on the city of Lgov in the Kursk region of southern Russia, causing severe damage to apartments.

Local Governor Alexander Khinshtein said one person was injured in the latest attack on the region on Monday, December 30. Ukrainian troops have seized parts of the region after starting attacks in August 2024.

Khinshtein said power lines were out in two areas.

"Their goal is to scare people, cause confusion, panic and chaos," Khinshtein said.

The Ukrainian military reported the damage and uploaded images that were referred to as fires in the city, but did not specify who was behind the attack.

Khinshtein last week said four people were killed and five others injured in an attack by Ukraine against residential buildings and other locations in Lgov.

Five people were killed earlier this month in a Ukrainian missile strike in Rylsk, another city in the Kursk region.
