DENPASAR - The Department of Agriculture and Food Security of the Province of Bali, has prepared a vaccine for livestock in Bali to prevent the transmission of Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD).

Head of the Department of Agriculture and Food Security (Distangangan) Bali Province, I Wayan Sunada, said there were 110 thousand doses of vaccine.

"The vaccine has arrived, there are around 110,000 doses and also (there are) disinfectants. We plan to vaccinate first and then disinfect", said Sunada, Tuesday, July 5.

The vaccination for livestock will be carried out today in several areas, especially in the port entrance areas, namely Jembrana, Karangasem, and Buleleng regencies. Vaccination is also carried out in Gianyar.

"Today (vaccination). We have mapped the area of Buleleng, Jembrana because it is close to Banyuwangi (East Java) we vaccinated livestock there and in Karangasem because it is close to Lombok-NTB Lombok", he said.

"We are also vaccinating in Gianyar, all of our districts are vaccinated, if this vaccine runs out, I will contact the center and a second stage will be brought in again", he continued.

Vaccination is prioritized for cattle because the cases in Bali are mostly found in cows.

"We have mapped the cows for the time being", he said.

The Bali Provincial Government is in synergy with the Bali Police to form a Task Force (Satgas) on the Island of the Gods to anticipate the spread of Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD).

Bali Police Chief, Inspector General Putu Jayan Danu Putra, said outbreaks of FMD for livestock have been detected in three areas in Bali, namely Karangasem, Gianyar, and Buleleng regencies. The handling of FMD is carried out by the Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) of the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB).
