MEDAN - Medan Mayor Bobby Nasution said that as many as 12 housing units on the coast of Belawan had to meet the standard of livable houses to reduce slum settlements.

"I ask that the renovation of this house must comply with technical standards. The work should not be carried out haphazardly, so that the renovated house is truly livable," said Bobby Nasution, quoted from a written statement by Public Relations of the Medan City Government, Wednesday, June 29.

This was confirmed by Bobby Nasution after visiting three houses, each measuring 3x12 meters. The house renovation is still in the process of being owned by three sisters who are widowed in Lorong 6, Bagan Deli Village, Medan Belawan, Medan City.

Bobby Nasution explained that this house renovation program is one of the Medan City Government's efforts to deal with stunting in children under five years old (toddlers) in the coastal area of Belawan.

This is because the condition of houses that are uninhabitable or unhealthy is one of the causes of stunting, apart from being an effort by the Medan City Government to reduce slum settlements in Medan City.

"As an initial stage, we have 12 houses repaired. God willing, this number will continue to grow. The house renovations carried out are in accordance with healthy home standards," said Bobby.

Head of the Medan City Settlement and Spatial Planning Department of Housing, Endar Sutan Lubis, explained that the 12 housing units that had been dissected were the result of not meeting health standards.

Of the 12 housing units that were dissected in the coastal area of Belawan, he explained, there are three housing units of which are currently in the process of constructing habitable houses.

He also said that President Joko Widodo would attend the 2022 national family day (harganas) in Medan City, and planned to review the two houses that had been completed.

"We prioritize the completion of the two houses first, the rest will follow. We are targeting the two houses to be completed in early July," Endar said as quoted by Antara.
