Police Are Working On Security Plans For The 2024 Election

JAKARTA - The Head of the Public Relations Division of the National Police Inspector General of Police Dedi Prasetyo stated that the National Police are still working on what is needed to prepare security and smooth the implementation of the 2024 General Election, one of which is the formation of the Nusantara Task Force and the Mantap Brata Operation.

"We are still discussing this, how much strength, then what possible threats will occur, how many infrastructure facilities are used. All of this is still being worked out," said Dedi in Jakarta as quoted by Antara, Sunday, June 19.

He explained that the National Police had coordinated with the Indonesian KPU which conveyed the stages of the 2024 General Election starting on June 14, 2022.

In this phase, continued Dedi, the National Police had already prepared an operation codenamed Operation Mantap Brata, which was followed by all regional police in 34 provinces.

"All regional police will carry out Operation Mantap Brata activities," he said.

In the operation, said Dedi, all regional police officers prepare and anticipate all potential spectrum threats that occur at each stage of the election.

"Because each stage we have analyzed has a different spectrum of threats to public order and security," he explained.

For this reason, the former Central Kalimantan Regional Police Chief said that the involvement of Polri's forces would vary, as well as the facilities and infrastructure used, the numbers were also different.

"Polri guarantees that all stages of this election can go well and the democratic party, as the people's hope, will take place safely, orderly, and smoothly," said Dedi.

Law enforcement

Regarding the anticipation of election polarization, according to Dedi, this is unavoidable, as are identity politics, hoaxes, and hate speech. The National Police will enforce the law, but the Bhayangkara Corps will prioritize preventive and preemptive efforts first.

The anticipatory step taken is to form the Nusantara Task Force involving relevant agencies from the KPU and Bawaslu.

"The National Police have prepared the Nusantara Task Force as a form of cooling system. Then collaborate on literacy, socialization, and reminders if there are certain communities or groups who spread, viral content that is polarizing, identity politics, hoaxes, we will remind them," said Dedi.

The Nusantara Task Force will operate when the National Police declare Operation Mantap Brata begins.

Dedi stressed that warnings will be given to those who try to spread false news. If the warning has been given more than once, then law enforcement will be carried out.

"If you are reminded once or twice that you are still taking the same action, then law enforcement efforts must be carried out. So that such activities do not happen again," said Dedi.

Dedi added that the National Police took the moment of Bhayangkara's 76th Anniversary as a forum to maintain the solidity and synergy of various parties in order to make various national and international agendas successful in Indonesia, such as the G20 Presidency and the 2024 General Election.
