JAYAPURA - The Papuan Regional Police have named 14 members of the Pania DPRD, Papua, including Sekwan staff, as corruption suspects.

Director of Special Crimes (Dirkrimsus) Polda Papua Kombes Fernando Sanches Napitupulu said a total of 25 members of the council and 2 staff members of the Paniai Regency DPRD who were suspected of being involved in corruption.

This alleged corruption case occurred in March 2018 with an audit result of a loss of IDR 59 billion.

“The chronology of the corruption case is through APBD funds planned by the Secretariat staff whose activities are felt by the community. Each member of the council gets Rp 500 million in cash plus a salary of Rp 30 million for the 2018 fiscal year every quarter,” explained Dirkrimsus in a written statement from the Papua Police, Friday, June 17.

Currently, the Papuan Police have named 14 suspects as members of the council and secretariat staff.

"For now, the remaining members of the board for the 2018 period have not become DPOs as long as they can be invited to communicate within the specified time. But when the person concerned does not respond to a call from the Police, it will be assigned to the People's Wanted List (DPO)," said Kombes Fernando.

The suspects were charged with Article 2 or Article 3 of the Corruption Eradication Law.
