MAGELANG - The Magelang Regency Government has formed a task force to deal with oral and nail disease (PMK) outbreaks ahead of Eid al-Adha 1443 Hijriah.

"This is a follow-up to a circular letter from the Minister of Home Affairs issued on June 9, 2022," said Magelang Regent Zaenal Arifin at a coordination meeting for handling the PMK outbreak in Magelang, Monday, June 13.

Zaenal Arifin said that his party will carry out efforts to control and overcome FMD outbreaks in livestock in each region through security, observation, identification, prevention, eradication, and treatment of animals based on the Circular Letter of the Minister of Agriculture Number 01 SE PK.300, SE 2 and SE 3.

"The Magelang Regency Government is asked to optimize its roles and functions to ensure the mitigation of risks to animal health and the environment as well as their impact on economic, social and cultural aspects. Of course we are asked to form a task force for handling PMK and a regional veterinary authority," he said.

In accordance with the SE Minister of Home Affairs, he said, the Magelang Regency Government was also asked to carry out optimal supervision from the village and sub-district levels, sub-districts by forming command posts for the PMK handling task force in each outbreak area by involving Forkompimda and Forkopimcam.

Based on the Antara report, data that has been compiled by the Livestock and Fisheries Service of Magelang Regency, there are 15 sub-districts that have been affected by the FMD outbreak.

Zaenal explained that in accordance with the mandate of the Minister of Home Affairs SE, local governments could use the APBD budget for determination and amendments to carry out the prevention of FMD outbreaks.

"But if it is in an urgent situation, it is also allowed to use an unexpected budget," he said.

In addition, according to a letter from the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) Number 32 of 2022, local governments are also required to ensure the availability of healthy sacrificial animals that meet the requirements to be sacrificed for Muslims, but at the same time the government is obliged to take preventive steps so that the FMD outbreak can be controlled and not spread.

This means that the government is obliged to map the availability of sacrificial animals with the needs of sacrificial animals in the Magelang Regency area.

Then the government is obliged to provide assistance and provision for the sale and maintenance of sacrificial animals.

The government is also required to support the availability of infrastructure for the implementation of the slaughter of sacrificial animals through slaughterhouses in accordance with the MUI fatwa on halal slaughter standards so that the FMD virus can be prevented as much as possible.

"Because Eid is not long, we must immediately form a task force and also follow up on a circular from the Minister of Home Affairs. The handling must also be related to medicines and vitamins for livestock," said Zaenal.

The Regional Secretary of Magelang Regency Adi Waryanto asked the Head of the Livestock and Fisheries Service to immediately conduct mapping and observations regarding how many livestock have been affected by the FMD outbreak and where the points are.

He asked all sub-district heads and village heads to help carry out observations related to the spread of this PMK outbreak.

"This includes immediately drafting a task force concept because there are directions to involve Forkompimda and Forkopimcam," he said.
