Vice President Ma'ruf Amin Thinks G20 As Momentum For Indonesia To Gain Global Trust

JAKARTA - Indonesian Vice President Ma'ruf Amin stressed that this year's G20 event is a momentum for Indonesia to gain global credibility and trust.

"The G20 is Indonesia's momentum to gain credibility or trust from the international community in leading the global recovery," said the Vice President while giving a public lecture to Participants of the Regular Education Program Batch 63 and 64 of the Indonesian National Defense Institute, in Jakarta, Tuesday, June 7.

He said that in the midst of various global challenges that are currently happening, Indonesia took over the leadership relay of the G20 for the first time.

"In 1999 the G20 was formed to find solutions when the world was hit by an economic crisis. This year Indonesia holds the G20 Presidency which aims to strengthen consultation and cooperation in responding to crises caused by pandemics and wars," said the Vice President.

The Indonesian leadership or Presidency at the G20 carries the big theme Recover Together, Recover Stronger with three priority agendas, namely global health architecture, digital economic transformation and energy transition.

The vice president stressed that Indonesia's leadership was being tested so that the G20 members, who represent 80 percent of the world's economy, could realize the three main agendas, as well as find solutions to conflicts that worsened the world economy.

In addition, said the Vice President, Indonesia must optimize the G20 Presidency to create a double effect for Indonesia, among others, by showing that Indonesia is open to business, so that the G20 Presidency can have an impact on improving the welfare of the Indonesian people.

He said that so far Indonesia has made various historical and monumental records at the global level, including the success in organizing the 1955 Asian-African Conference and the recognition of the archipelagic state regime in the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea.

According to the Vice President, the success of recognizing Indonesia's role in the eyes of the world cannot be separated from the spirit in realizing the ideals, as stated in the preamble of the 1945 Constitution, in which a free and active foreign policy has always been the initial capital that guides Indonesia's steps in international relations.

However, the Vice President reminded that the recognition that Indonesia gets for its work abroad will not be possible if the Indonesian people do not fix their domestic affairs first, namely by improving the political, economic, social and cultural ecosystem.
