JAKARTA - China has firmly reminded that Taiwan is an integral part of its territory, expressing a strong protest related to US President Joe Biden's statement regarding the democratic island.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin said China firmly opposes the US willingness to defend Taiwan militarily if necessary, as President Joe Biden said.

"China expresses its acute dissatisfaction and strongest protest against the US for its remarks", Wang said at a regular press conference, TASS reported on May 23.

"Taiwan is an integral part of China", said Wang.

Wang further reminded us that China will always defend its interests with the strength of its 1.4 billion population.

"No one should underestimate the strong determination, steadfast will, and strong ability of the Chinese people in defending national sovereignty and territorial integrity", Wang said, citing NDTV.

As previously reported, the President of the United States said he was ready to use force to defend Taiwan if it was attacked, on the sidelines of his visit to Japan to meet Prime Minister Fumio Kishida.

The remarks were part of a series of critical comments made by President Biden while in China, appearing to deviate from existing US policy of so-called strategic ambiguity in Taiwan.

When a reporter asked President Biden during a joint press conference with the Japanese PM if the United States would defend Taiwan if attacked, President Biden replied: "Yes."

"That's the commitment we made", he said, as quoted by Reuters.

"We agree with the one-China policy. We have signed it and all the agreements are meant to be made from there. But the idea that, that it can be taken by force, that it can be taken by force, no, is not fair. It is not appropriate", he said.

He added, however, that he hoped it would never happen or be attempted.
