Aceh Prosecutors' Team Sow Arrest DPO Convicted Of Forest Destruction

BANDA ACEH - The Aceh High Prosecutor's Office for Arresting Fugitives (Tabur) has arrested convicts of forest destruction who have been on the wanted list or DPO since two years ago.

Head of the Legal Information and Public Relations Section of the Aceh Attorney General's Office, Ali Rasab, said the convict who was arrested was on behalf of Edi Saputra bin Zainuddin.

"The convict Edi Saputra bin Zainuddin was found guilty based on the decision of the Meulaboh District Court, West Aceh Regency, in 2017," said Ali Rasab, quoted by Antara, Wednesday, May 18.

Ali Rasab said the convict Edi Saputra bin Zainuddin had been properly summoned by the public prosecutor to serve his sentence, after the case had permanent legal force. However, the convict has been absent from work until he has been included in the DPO since 2020.

Ali Rasab said the convict Edi Saputra bin Zainuddin was found guilty and sentenced to one year in prison and a fine of IDR 500 million subsidiary to one month in prison.

The convict Edi Saputra bin Zainuddin was found to be legally and convincingly guilty of committing a crime by intentionally transporting timber forest products that were not accompanied by a legal certificate of forest products.

The actions of the convict Edi Saputra bin Zainuddin violated as regulated and were threatened with criminality in Article 83 paragraph (1) letter (b) of the Republic of Indonesia Law Number 18 of 2013 concerning Prevention of Forest Destruction Eradication.

"The arrest of the convict Edi Saputra bin Zainuddin for the cooperation of the Aceh Attorney General's Team and the Nagan Raya District Attorney's Sowing Team on Tuesday (17/5) at around 22.30 WIB. The arrest of the convict Edi Saputra bin Zainuddin was based on public information. The public reported the presence of the convict Edi Saputra bin Zainuddin at his house.

Based on this information, said Ali Rasab, the Aceh Attorney General's Office sent the Tabur Team to Nagan Raya to check the information. After the information was confirmed to be correct, the Aceh Attorney General's Office and the Nagan Raya District Attorney's Team arrested the person concerned without a fight.

Then, the convict Edi Saputra bin Zainuddin was taken to the Nagan Raya District Attorney's Office to complete the administration of carrying out the court's decision.

"Furthermore, the convict Edi Saputra bin Zainuddin was taken to the Meulaboh Class IIB Penitentiary or Lapas, West Aceh Regency, to serve a one-year prison sentence," said Ali Rasab.
