JAKARTA - The Task Force for Handling COVID-19 asked universities whose students took part in a demonstration to reject the Omnibus Law on Work Creation on Thursday, October 8, to identify and carry out COVID-19 testing.

This is important to do, the aim is to prevent the spread of the virus which causes mass clusters of demonstrations to occur.

"We urge the universities whose students take part in these activities (demonstrations, ed ) to carry out identification and testing ," said Spokesperson for the COVID-19 Task Force Widu Adisasmito in an online press conference, Tuesday, October 13.

If there are students who later test positive, he asks the university to do a contact tracing. "Also provide isolation for students who are indicated to be reactive," he said.

Apart from students, the group of workers who took part in the demonstration was also a concern of the COVID-19 Task Force. Wiku asked the company to immediately create a task force team at the company level.

This team, he said, was then asked to coordinate with the local government to screen workers participating in demonstration activities against the Omnibus Law on Cipta Kerja.

"If someone is reactive, immediately do tracing to ensure their closest contact," he said while reminding the demonstrators that they could also independently check their health if they experienced symptoms of COVID-19.

"So that the health status can be ascertained," he added.

Furthermore, Wiku said that people who choose to take part in the action must remember to implement health protocols such as maintaining distance, washing hands, and always wearing masks.

"This pandemic requires us to think critically. Everything we do must think about the benefits and disadvantages. Including the large crowd," he said.

He reminded that the public must remain unconcerned during this pandemic. Moreover, this crowd has the potential to expose anyone to COVID-19.

"Not because we crowd around bringing illness and death threats to our relatives and families," he concluded.
