TANJUNGPINANG - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) appealed to coastal communities in the Riau Islands (Kepri) region to be aware of the tidal phenomenon which is predicted to last until April 19.

Tanjungpinang BMKG forecaster Vivi Putri conveyed that the rob could have an impact on disrupting transportation around the port and coast, community activities, and loading and unloading activities at the port.

"The public must always be vigilant and ready to anticipate the impact of high waves and maximum tides of sea water," said Vivi, quoted by Antara, Monday, April 18.

Vivi said the rob occurred due to tidal activity triggered by the full moon phase. Not only that, tidal flooding is also caused by high rainfall, which also triggers sea level rise.

"Moreover, judging from normal data, the peak of the rain did occur in April," said Vivi.

There are also coastal areas that have the potential to be affected by the tidal wave, namely Batu Ampar District, Batam City and its surroundings.

Then, the coast of North Bintan District, Bintan Regency and its surroundings. Coastal District of Karimun, Tanjung Balai Karimun Regency and its surroundings.

"Keep monitoring the official BMKG information to get the latest weather conditions," he said.

Rob is a coastal flood because the sea level is higher than the shoreline or land on the coast.
