JAKARTA - Minister of Home Affairs (Mendagri) Tito Karnavian conveyed that the cleanliness of the area can be a reflection of good governance of a region, be it province, district or city.

"A clean city will increase the comfort of people's lives. A dirty city illustrates the absence of leadership (on autopilot)," said the Minister of Home Affairs in a statement in Jakarta Monday, April 18.

According to him, if the area is clean, the city is clean, the government is clean, and the management is good, then the community will be good.

"But if a waste area is scattered everywhere, then the government is definitely on autopilot, then the people are in a mess so that tourists are lazy to come," said Tito.

The Minister of Home Affairs said that the cleanliness of an area is an important indicator that he pays attention to in every visit to the region.

"I've traveled to all provinces, maybe I have visited more than half of the districts/cities. Many areas have managed their waste well, but not a few cities/districts have garbage scattered like on autopilot, no one is cleaning up," he said as quoted by Antara.

He said Indonesia's opportunity to host the G20 Summit should be used as a momentum to improve cleanliness in the Bali region and throughout Indonesia.

Although the launch of GILASSAMPAH was held in Bali, he hopes that from Bali the movement will spread throughout Indonesia.

To that end, the Ministry of Home Affairs encourages the emergence of best practices in waste management in the regions and to be replicated in other areas.

One of the forums is like the GILASSAMPAH activity which provides discussion forums and sharing sessions by presenting local government experiences in waste management.

"They were asked to be the speaker to share how they can manage waste. We hope that all regional heads who have implemented it can share their experiences, while those who have not done so can learn," said Tito.

The launch of #GILASSAMPAH is part of the Indonesia International Waste (IIWAS) Expo which will take place from April 17-20, 2022 in Denpasar, Bali.

The clean-up action was carried out at Kuta Beach and the Tahura Manggrove Forest area in Pemogan, South Denpasar. This object will be visited by G20 Heads of State during the G20 Presidency event in October 2022.
