JAKARTA - Member of Commission II of the DPR RI Rifqinizamy Karsayuda said Commission II of the DPR is targeting three Draft Laws (RUU) for the New Autonomous Region (DOB) in Papua to be completed before June 2022.

"There are three bills related to the division of Papua which are discussed by Commission II of the House of Representatives. We are trying before June 2022, the entire bill can be approved by the DPR to be passed into law," said Rifqi Rifqinizamy Karsayuda, as he is familiarly known, in Jakarta, Sunday, April 17.

He said the target was one of the consequences of the formation of a new province, so there must be the formation of electoral districts (dapil) for the 2024 General Election.

According to him, the formation of the new electoral districts has the effect of adding electoral districts and increasing the number of seats for members of the DPR RI, so it must be adjusted immediately so that it is in sync with the stages of the 2024 election.

"The formation of electoral districts is in accordance with the mandate of Law Number 7 of 2017 concerning Elections, there will be additional seats in the DPR including additional electoral districts which must be adjusted immediately so that they are in sync with the stages of the 2024 elections that will be held," he said.

Previously, the DPR Plenary Session on Tuesday (12/4) approved three bills for the New Autonomous Region (DOB) in Papua to be proposed by the DPR. The three bills proposed by Commission II of the DPR RI are the Bill on South Papua, the Bill on Central Papua, and the Bill on the Central Mountains.

The three bills had previously been approved by the Working Committee (Panja) in the plenary meeting of decision-making on the results of the harmonization of the bill with the Legislation Body (Baleg) of the DPR RI.
