PALEMBANG - A fire broke out in the densely populated residential area of Talang Aman Rimba Kemuning, Kemuning District, Palembang, South Sumatra, in the early hours of Thursday April 14.

The fire from the area soared so that it could be seen from a radius of about 5 kilometers.

The head of RT 025/003 Talang Aman, Erwin, at the scene said the fire came from the house of one of the residents of R (48).

The incident was known by local residents who shouted excitedly and ran out of the house, seeing the size of the fire burning R's house, at 01:45 western Indonesia time.

Seeing this incident, Erwin immediately contacted the fire brigade and the local PLN office for a power cut because it was feared that the fire would strike other residents' houses.

"Please come quickly, sir. The fire is getting bigger, we are afraid that it will grab residents' houses," Erwin said when he contacted the Kemuning District Fire Department, quoted by Antara.

While waiting for officers, local residents worked together to extinguish the fire that burned R's semi-permanent house with water, which was transported using buckets and small hoses.

"We don't know yet what caused the fire because the man who lived in this house lived alone with mental retardation, maybe he was suspected of starting a fire in his house until something like this happened, for that we will hand it over to the authorities," he said.

Meanwhile, he confirmed that R survived the fire and has now been evacuated to his family's house.

Until finally at around 02.07 western Indonesia time, the firefighters arrived by deploying four fire engines.

Even though they had difficulties because they were in a narrow alley, the officers managed to extinguish the fire at around 02.34 western Indonesia time and the condition of the house had been destroyed to the ground.

"The fire has been extinguished now, it's just a matter of cooling, luckily, it's reported quickly otherwise the fire will spread," said a firefighter at Pos Kemuning.
