MALANG - Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture (Menko PMK) Muhadjir Effendy reminded the community to work together to overcome the nation's spiritual and material poverty

This was conveyed by the Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture while attending Tadarus Ramadan, University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) as quoted in a release received in Malang, East Java, Wednesday, April 13.

"Poverty can be divided into two types, namely material poverty and spiritual poverty. Both have different characteristics that can be recognized and are easily recognized," he said.

According to him, apart from some people struggling with material poverty, many rich people are currently experiencing spiritual poverty.

It can be seen and has an effect on the behavior that is shown everyday. Not only seen in the individual, but also occurs in society.

According to him, property poverty is difficult to overcome. However, tackling spiritual poverty is even more complicated. Many people quickly realize and admit that they are materially poor. In fact, many claim to be poor when social assistance (bansos) is presented. In contrast to the awareness of spiritual poverty that is difficult to appear in the human mind.

“They feel fine, even though other people see themselves as overreaching and unnatural. Arrogant, miserly, greedy, immoral behavior is often shown. In fact, they are already aware of it, but are even proud of their bad attitude," he said, as reported by Antara.

Therefore, Muhadjir encouraged Muhammadiyah, especially UMM, to be able to overcome and reach both, both spiritual and material poverty.

For example, the Faculty of Islamic Religion, the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, and others can slowly eradicate spiritual poverty, while the Faculty of Economics and Business, the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, and other parties can provide solutions to the problem of property poverty.

He considered that Muhammadiyah had long struggled to eradicate poverty, both through empowerment and awareness of spirituality. Taking sides with the poor, orphans, and the marginalized is also in line with Al-Maun Muhammadiyah's theology.

"Hopefully in this Ramadan, we can be kept away from the traits of envy, jealousy, deceit and other bad behavior, this holy month can also be used as a moment of correction to improve ourselves in the future," he said.
