TIMIKA - The Timika Search and Rescue Office in Papua Province on Wednesday morning, April 13, sent a search and rescue team to look for two anglers who reportedly had not returned home since going fishing on April 7, 2022.

Head of the Timika Search and Rescue Office George L Mercy Randang said the joint SAR team departed from Pomako Port in East Mimika District by boat to Amar Village in West Mimika on Wednesday at around 08.00 eastern Indonesia time to look for Frans Wabiser (49) and Marinus (30).

"Hopefully, during the search towards West Mimika, the two victims can be found soon. Our target is heading to Kampung Amar," said Mercy Randang, quoted by Antara.

The Timika Search and Rescue Office on Tuesday (12/4) received a report from the family that Frans Wabiser and Marinus who on April 7, 2022, used a blue and white boat with an 18 PK engine to go fishing in Otakwa waters, Mimika District of the Far East and never back home.

After receiving the report, SAR officers were dispatched to the waters of the Far East Mimika to Otakwa Village to conduct a search, but the effort was fruitless.

"Initial information we received from the victim's family was that the two of them went fishing in Otakwa waters. However, after a day of searching in the Mimika Far East area to Otakwa, the results were nil," said Mercy Randang.

The SAR officers then decided to continue their search efforts to the West Mimika area to Kampung Amar.

"We received information from several parties that the two of them wanted to travel to Amar Village," said Mercy Randang.
