PANGKALPINANG - The Provincial Government of the Bangka Belitung Islands is focusing on the construction of a regional waste disposal site (TPA) based on environment and energy in Paya Benua Village, Bangka Regency, to optimize waste management in the area.

"The waste in this regional landfill will later be processed into pellets as fuel for steam power", said Governor of the Bangka Belitung Islands, Erzldi Rosman Djohan, in Pangkalpinang, Tuesday, April 5.

He said the construction of the Regional TPA in Paya Benua Village, Mendo Barat District, Bangka Regency was a follow-up to the results of the coordination meeting between the Governors of Sumatra and the Head of Bappenas, Suharso Monoarfa, on March 23, 2022.

In the coordination meeting, there are still areas including Bangka Belitung that do not yet have a regional TPA so waste management has not been going well.

"This landfill is directed to the recycling process so that no residue from the waste is wasted", he said, as reported by Antara.

According to him, in accelerating the construction of this TPA, his party has socialized with all village heads, village heads throughout Bangka Belitung Island, and the village heads and village heads support the construction of this final waste disposal site.

"I have instructed his staff to immediately formulate a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Bangka Belitung Provincial Government and Regency/City Governments throughout Bangka Belitung Island regarding the regional landfill development plan in Paya Benua", he said.

He added that quick steps must be taken so that waste management can be managed seriously because the number will continue to increase along with the increase in population.

"This waste landfill will later involve BUMDes and be supported by modern facilities and management technology as well as a good management system", he said.
