Jakarta Returns To 100 Percent PTM, Provincial Government Asked To Set Student Return Hours To Avoid Crowding

JAKARTA - Jakarta has again implemented face-to-face learning (PTM) with 100 percent student capacity, following the provisions of the 4 Ministerial Decree. PTM 100 percent is applied at all levels of education units.

Commissioner for the Indonesian Child Protection Commission (KPAI) for Education, Retno Listyarti, assessed that the Capital City was ready to hold a full capacity PTM. This can be seen from the already high achievement of COVID-19 vaccination.

"DKI Jakarta is able to achieve vaccination rates for children aged 6-11 years and 12 to 17 years with an achievement of above 90 percent for vaccine doses 1 and dose 2, so that community immunity in schools can be formed," said Retno in her statement, Monday, April 4.

Retno also said that schools in Jakarta generally already have SOPs for student arrivals, starting from checking vaccination status, measuring body temperature, providing handwashing facilities, to checking the use of masks for students.

However, Retno stated that the school does not yet have a mechanism for returning students after studying at school. In fact, after school hours, there is a risk of crowds occurring, especially in the student pick-up area.

"During KPAI supervision, there was a buildup of pick-ups when they came home from school, especially at the elementary school level. In addition, parents who were unable to pick up, ordered ojek online, because the ojol driver did not know the child to be picked up, so the ojol drivers got off the motorbike and went to the door to ask the school staff," Retno said.

Therefore, Retno asked the DKI Education Office to encourage schools to make well-prepared SOPs for returning students, such as setting the time for students to return. This is done so that when returning home there is no crowd.

"A lag time for students to go home is made in each class, so they don't coincide. This is to avoid overcrowding," said Retno.

In addition, Retno also asked for coordination between the school and parents, and the community around the school to ensure that children continue to apply health protocols and do not gather after school hours.

Considering that, in implementing 100 percent PTM last January, KPAI found that there were a number of high school students hanging out in certain places after school. Incidentally, the school is located near a hangout for young people.

"There needs to be good cooperation between homeroom teachers and parents to ensure that their children go straight home after school hours," he added.
